PNG to JPG

Convert PNG images to JPG in your browser, keeping their exact size. Transparent areas are filled with white or a colour you choose. Free and private: nothing is uploaded.
Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
90%

90% looks identical to the original for most images. Lower means smaller files.

#ffffff

JPG has no transparency, so see-through pixels are filled with this colour.

How to use the PNG to JPG

  1. Choose PNG files, or drag and drop them onto the box. One file or a whole batch.
  2. Set the JPG quality and, for transparent PNGs, the background colour. Files convert straight away and update when you change a setting.
  3. Download files one by one, or use Download all. Clear all removes them from the page.

Examples

  • A screenshot or photo saved as PNG that is too big to email or upload. As a JPG at 90% it is usually several times smaller, at the same width and height.
  • A logo with a transparent background that has to go into a form that only takes JPG. The transparent area becomes white, or the colour of the page it will sit on.
  • A diagram with sharp text may look slightly blurred as a JPG. Keep it as PNG, or shrink it with the Image Compressor instead.

PNG vs JPG

PNG is lossless and supports transparency, which makes it ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics, but photos saved as PNG are large. JPG uses lossy compression designed for photos, so files are much smaller, but it has no transparency and can blur sharp edges and text.

What happens to transparency

Because JPG can’t store see-through pixels, each one is blended onto the background colour before the image is saved. Semi-transparent edges, such as soft shadows, blend smoothly into that colour. White suits most documents; pick your page colour if the image will sit on a coloured background.

Quality

The quality setting controls JPG compression. 90% is hard to tell from the original; 70–80% gives much smaller files for photos. The width and height never change. To change the size too, use the Image Resizer.

Privacy

Conversion runs in a background worker in your browser. Your images are never uploaded, and converted files exist only in your browser’s memory until you download them or leave the page.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded?

No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser, and your images never leave your device.

What happens to a transparent background?

JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose, white by default. Partly transparent pixels are blended into that colour.

Will the image size change?

No. The JPG has exactly the same width and height in pixels as the PNG.

Is there a file size limit?

Each file can be up to 100 MB, and you can convert as many files as you like. Very large images can still exceed what some browsers, especially on phones, can draw.

Why was my file rejected?

The tool checks the start of each file to make sure it really is a PNG, whatever its name. A JPG or another file renamed to .png is caught and explained.
