How to use the Date Calculator
- Choose Between dates to count the time from one date to another, or Add or subtract to move a date forwards or backwards.
- For Between dates, pick a start date (today by default) and an end date. Tick Include the end date if both days should count.
- For Add or subtract, pick a date, choose Add or Subtract, and enter any mix of years, months, weeks and days.
- The result updates straight away. Use Copy to paste it elsewhere.
Examples
- 1 January 2026 to 1 January 2027 is 365 days, or 1 year. 2024 to 2025 is 366 days because 2024 is a leap year.
- 15 January 2024 to 20 March 2026 is 795 days: 2 years, 2 months and 5 days, or 113 weeks and 4 days.
- Monday 5 January to Monday 12 January 2026 is 7 days, of which 5 are weekdays. Including the end date makes it 8 days and 6 weekdays.
- 16 October 2026 plus 90 days is Thursday, 14 January 2027.
- 31 January plus 1 month is 28 February, or 29 February in a leap year.
How dates are counted
The calculator works with calendar dates only, with no times or time zones, so a result never shifts by a day because of daylight saving or where you are. It follows the Gregorian calendar: a leap year is divisible by 4, except century years, which must be divisible by 400. So 2000 was a leap year and 1900 was not.
Including or excluding the end date
By default the end date is not counted, so 1 to 2 March is 1 day. That matches how most people count elapsed time and how most date calculators work. Tick Include the end date when both the first and last day count, such as for a hotel stay counted in days, a leave request or a course that runs from Monday to Friday inclusive. It adds exactly one day.
Years, months and weeks
Months have different lengths, so the years-months-days figure counts complete calendar months first, then the days left over, the same way the Age Calculator counts ages. Weeks are simply the total days divided by 7. Weekdays are Monday to Friday; the calculator doesn’t know your public holidays, so subtract those yourself.
Adding months to the end of a month
When you add or subtract months and the day doesn’t exist in the new month, the result moves to that month’s last day: 31 January + 1 month is 28 February (29 in a leap year), and 29 February + 1 year is 28 February. Years and months are applied first, then weeks and days. For clock times rather than dates, use the Hours & Time Calculator.
Frequently asked questions
How many days are between two dates?
Choose Between dates, pick the two dates and read the number of days. The end date isn’t counted unless you tick Include the end date, which adds one day.
Does the calculator count leap years?
Yes. Every 29 February in the range is counted, and years like 1900 that are not leap years are handled correctly.
Can it count business days?
It counts weekdays, Monday to Friday, between the two dates. Public holidays differ by country and region, so they are not removed automatically.
What date is 30, 60 or 90 days from today?
Choose Add or subtract, leave the start date as today, choose Add and enter 30, 60 or 90 in Days. The result shows the date and the day of the week.
Are my dates sent anywhere?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser, and nothing is stored or sent.
